Ely regain the trophy in style.
Chris Davison's report:"Mike Angel won the toss so Ely had white on odd boards. I went into a bishops opening against Richard Donaghy, Richard Newman was against Mike's modern defense. Tim played the King's Indian and Joe played the Spanish opening. I saw Joe was two pawns up at one point. Then I went under pressure and Tim dropped a pawn. Then I saw a bit of Richard Newman's game and it looked alright for him. Then Joe's game was an ending with white having two pawns and Rook and Geoff with just a rook. But then I dropped a piece and then while white was setting up a checkmate in my game, Joe lost a rook and had to resign 1-0 Ely. Then Richard Donaghay's attack was too much for me so I resigned and by then Ely had regained the trophy. 2-0. Mike Angel was still a pawn up against Tim but then they agreed a draw. 2.5-0.5. Richard Newman and Mike Bradley were battling and up against the clock. Richard Newman was a pawn down. Unfortunately Mike Bradley was going to queen a pawn and it was Richard Newman who lost on time."
